Then, once it runs through the migration cycle, I rename a different category, e.g., “01 Ninjas and Pirates”, so that it will do that chunk before failing.
I think this should work OK, and then I’ll just have some tidying up to do with deleting partial galleries, removing duplicates, etc. I just learned from the programmer that Upload Junction has a 64 GB limit, which is why my work-around is necessary. I’m chugging through almost 400 GB of images on Smug Mug, though now’s a good time to eliminate some clutter by leaving it behind.
I’ve also found that UJ has trouble with galleries over 1000 images, so I’ve started splitting them into smaller galleries that I’ll re-combine after the migration.
I wish I had a more presentable Zenfolio site to show off, but in the meantime here’s a link to my Zenfolio work in progress as I migrate, re-organize, and otherwise try to prettify my new site.
I probably won’t flip the switch on Smug Mug to Zenfolio until I’ve completed the migration, created all of my awesome custom download licenses, prices lists, etc.
The latest version auto-updates and should keep your workflow running smoothly without worry.
a photo so it displays in multiple galleries at once!
Like many Smug Mug users, I was shocked at their recent announcement that to continue my subscription, the next time I renewed my fee would jump a whopping $100 from the current $150/year rate to enjoy the same features.
There was a vague promise of “future improvements”, but without any concrete evidence that I’d be getting 67% better service for 67% more money, I went straight to Zenfolio, which I had investigated as an alternative after previous frustrations with Smug Mug, but had yet to have enough motivation to complete the shift.
There’s a free service that’s too good to be true called Upload Junction.
It probably works great for everyone with smaller catalogs, but I find that it starts failing after about 100 galleries, and I have between 700-800. Since it starts transferring your various Smug Mug categories alphabetically, I’m renaming my categories so that they take turns going first, for example “01 Puppies and Kittens”, so that it will start with the galleries in that category.
