Note: AVG warn you when you disable database updates in its program window with ‘You are not fully protected Update Manager: Database Update is disabled.’ clicking ‘Fix Now’ will re-enable the definition update schedule task but not the program update schedule task.We suggest you to keep the database update enabled. This problem occurred nearly 2 weeks ago for me, which does seem to rather coincide with Zonealarms launch of their Free Antivirus and Firewall - coincidence I think not.
Then, in the computer that does not have an internet connection but has the AVG antivirus software that has to be updated offline, right click on the system tray icon for AVG and click â€˜Open AVG User Interface’. In the menu bar, choose Tools Update from directory to update AVG offline. Choose the folder where the virus definitions are located. AVG will use this file to update its virus database offline. When the offline update is complete, AVG will show a confirmation, as shown below.

Open AVG user interface, click Options Schedules, select’ Definition Update Schedule’ and uncheck ‘Enable this task’, click ‘OK’.

While you’re expanded Schedules on left, select ‘Program Update Schedule’ and untick ‘Enable this task’, click ‘OK’ to apply the changes.
When I booted up my PC this morning, my Internet connection was disabled, the result of me explicitly disabling it last night before shutting down.
AVG showed an error in that it could not update its virus database.
